BLOWER DOOR TESTING

Houses need a certain amount of fresh air to ensure adequate air quality. However, most houses are much leakier than they need to be. In order to test how leaky a house is, a blower door is used. Combined with ventilation requirements we can determine exactly how leaky your home is and find where those leaks are occurring. How does it work?

A blower door is a powerful fan that is typically mounted to the front door of your home by using a tightly fitted frame. Then, we are able to depressurize or pressurize your home in order to identify how leaky or sealed up it is.

Performing this type of test can give you an idea of how well your home’s existing insulation, doors and windows are working, and gives you the ability to see what modifications or upgrades need to be made. After examining the different leaks in the house, we will be able to give you a list of cost-efficient measures you can take in order to ensure increased efficiency, comfortability and containment of air.

HOW TO PREPARE YOUR HOME FOR A BLOWER DOOR TEST

  • Close All Exterior Doors and Windows

  • Turn Off AC or Heating System

  • Turn Off All Exhaust Fans and Kitchen Ranges

  • Empty Your Fireplace of Ashes and If There is a Damper, Close It

  • Open All Your Interior Doors

  • Seal Up Your Doggy Door

  • Ensure There Are No Holes in Your Walls or Ceiling
